Gallery 3 - old postcards of La Crosse - Wagon Bridge
The Wagon Bridge
South of Levee Park, near downtown La Crosse, the Wagon Bridge spanned the main channel of the Mississippi River. It was dedicated on July 4, 1891. In August of 1935, a car crash caused the west end of the bridge to collapse. It was repaired and reopened about 10 days later, and remained in use for four more years. After the new Cass Street bridge was built and opened to traffic in September of 1939, the old wagon bridge was taken down.
